DREAM KITCHEN

It is my DREAM kitchen!

After years of designing dream kitchens for clients, I finally got to design my own.

I am so lucky I had the opportunity and wherewithal to do everything I wanted.

Every single detail was thought through, there is not a lot of normal here.

The appliance wall was originally meant to be freestanding, but since it’s so plain and simple I decided to have our contractor build an alcove.

Matte finish on cabinets. My cabinet guy would never recommend this, but it’s just us here, we can handle it.

The “drawer” under the steam oven is a shelf, for loading and unloading the fridge.

White glass steam oven and plumbed coffee maker, built in fridge – spoiled.

Zoey is the newest member of our family, she is so photogenic! I had the table made from an old work top I had been hoarding.

The sideboard from the old dining room, I love how it blends in and how the mirrors throw a little light around.

These bar stools are absolutely perfect for the space, and comfortable.

The LED light over the peninsula is such a conversation piece, everyone loves it, even if they are not into modern.

Most of the cabinets are freestanding, it wasn’t easy, but I love the openness!

Roomba cleans underneath and I get to see more of the gorgeous French oak floors.

The wolf contemporary flush cook top is so sleek and easy to clean! I love how it just disappears into the lovely marble.

The knobs are set into the drawer front, how cool is that?

Cast iron sink and faucet, soap dispenser and filtered cold water dispenser. No garbage disposal.

How pretty is this backsplash? I am so happy I brought it all the way up, it’s like a subtle disco ball, reflecting all the light!

The end grain walnut cutting board is my go to workstation. At 2 x 3′, it can handle a lot of prep!

Yes, a television. I like to watch while I cook, and sometimes while we eat (terrible, I know).

I also put a fan in the kitchen, it’s genius. Drywalled exhaust fan disappears.

This flip out window was Andy’s dream. It is AWESOME! Our outdoor dining is right on the other side, so we can easily pass things back and forth.

At my 50th birthday party last summer, my friends and family gathered inside and out to sing to me.

I have never ever enjoyed being sung a happy birthday, but this one was so special, I really felt the love.

I could not be more blessed.

There’s the dishwasher! On the peninsula, knock to open.

I did all push to open on these doors and drawers and we love it!

Custom door on a chrome track, our “not a barn door”.

I added this wall to close off the den, so I can cook and piddle around in the kitchen and he can watch or nap in peace.

The thickness of the counters should match the floating shelves.

Most of the time the counter top will be mitered and twice as thick, which helps conceal the plywood top and support for the overhang on the peninsula.

The support for the shelves would also be easily hidden if they were thicker.

This was a challenge for the contractor and the cabinet maker, but they both rose to it!

How cute is this! It was Andy’s idea to put in more catholes.

We have one in the bedroom door and door to their bathroom.

Now they can enter the den when the door is closed, go through another to get to the laundry and into their bathroom.

Under the window is an appliance lift with the bread slicer and toaster.

In warm weather, we put the toaster on the counter and use it while we enjoy breakfast outside.

The countertops are Manhattan Calacatta polished marble. I went to pick out a simple bianco carrera slab and fell in love with this.

I’m in awe of it every day, the denim-y blue grays, white and sandy colors are just so gorgeous!

Andy loves this kitchen and den and everything about it as much as I do.

When guests come over he points out every detail, I’m just watching and being modest…

It is so nice to enjoy these new spaces together!
