I see color (and how you can too)

Many of you may not know this, but I LOVE to do color consulting in your home or business. It’s my thing, I see color, I can visualize it. I’ve done it since I was a little girl, and professionally since 1998. 95% of the time the colors come to me so clearly, the client is thrilled and so am I. Sometimes it’s a bit harder, the room wants one thing and the client wants another. It’s a very personal thing, some of you feel comfortable living with earth tones, some of you need more color to make your heart sing. If you’re thinking of painting and don’t know where to start, call me. Call me before the guys at the paint store know you by name, or worse, you pick a color off a chip and have your whole home painted peach on accident because the name “peaceful dunes” spoke to you.

In town I charge $125 per hour, and I can usually have you all set in that time. I will give you a couple of options for each room and ask you to paint samples to make sure you can live with them. This is the important part: Painting on your existing walls is best, in the finish you intend to use (matte, eggshell, etc), and painting two coats of a nice big sample (3 x 3′ or larger) is the way to do it. Then – stand back and make a circle with your hand, look through the circle, blocking out all the existing color around your swatch. Do this in all lights, all times of day, you want to love it most of the time. When you are sure it’s right for you and your house, go for it, paint the whole room. Hey if you’re too busy or hate to paint, I will do your samples for you, your painter can do it too.

Here’s some things you should know:

Accent walls are almost always unnecessary. There might be one wall in one room that would benefit from being a different color, but that’s rare. Step away from the HGTV.

Every room in your house does not need to be a different color. I do specialize in a timeless, classic look and historically yes they would do this, but every home is different. If you like that look and want this then you definitely need me to help pick those colors. It can go terribly wrong.

There are no rules when it comes to painting funny ceilings, trim, and exterior oddness. I tend to stare and think and talk it through until the right answer comes, and it always does.

If the room calls for it, I may ask how you’d feel about wallpaper or grasscloth. Open your mind to the possibilities.

The more opinions you get from friends and painters, the more  confused you will be. Trust the process you’re paying for.

I’ll await your call, don’t start without me 🙂
