The one about the new(est) obsession

I think you all know by now that when I get a wild hair to do something, it’s pretty much going to happen. An idea gets into my head, actually it’s usually an idea that has been there, waiting in the wings for many many years, and when it is the right time it comes forward and must be heard. When I was in elementary school I filled out the books that we did every year to commemorate each grade. For the first few years, until I wanted to be a teacher (possibly the worst job for me), I wanted to be a potter. I have dabbled in clay over the years but never seriously, I was not sure yet what I wanted to make. For the past ten or so years I have been dabbling in plaster, linen, paper mache, and always making vessels. I have dreams of stacks and stacks of gorgeous hand formed porcelain bowls and plates and things like this:

Now, I have no such high aspirations as this, I don’t even know if I am cut out or disciplined enough to be a ceramic artist. I certainly don’t thrive in a class atmosphere, and do not follow direction well, being a rebel and all. I started this board on Pinterest last night. I ran it by a friend who has a deep connection with ceramics and the local teachers and artists, she is excited for me and has ideas. I ran it past another friend who is a fine artist, apparently she also taught ceramics in the past and has a kiln or two I can borrow. They both offered to teach a class. So here we are, I just need to pick dates and there WILL be ceramic making happening in my backyard and garage this spring. I admittedly know nothing, but I am passionate and excited to learn! I’ll let you know the schedule as soon as I know.
