Stop the World (and let me off)

Stop the world and let me off – At my house, with the cats and the land and the quiet and my studio and NOTHING that needs to be done. This year has been fast and wonderful and hectic and design jobs and annoying health issues (I am ok). What I have not had is enough FUN or FULLFILLMENT! The busyness has been sucking away my creative juices. Once in while my energy level, my creativity and the amount of “free” time I have magically come together and I make art that I love. More of that, please!

*forgive me for this disjointed post, Just trying to catch up, as always!

My second Hidden in the Hills is less than three months away! November 17, 18, 19 and 24, 25, 26 ~ 10 am to 5 pm ~

Here are a couple of things I have been working on:

Similar to last year, I am making two types of art. The first are pieces that are decorative or functional, clay only. Second is mixed media, using project parts that I make out of clay or forage or find. These take much a more mental and creative mindset to assemble. No pics of those yet this year but I am in that zone! Stay posted on my Instagram stories to see them when they are complete.

On top is a crusty decorative bowl. It fits in your hand and is lovely to gaze into. Then we have my action shot, a still from a few fun videos I put on Instagram.

I’m passionate about many issues, but I’ve chosen to focus on biodiversity, permaculture, and sustainable farming and gardening. I believe that by eliminating lawns, non-native plantings, and chemicals, we can create habitats where all living things can thrive. Oh hey I renovated our kitchen! The new pics were taken before the last coat of lime paint (I painted these cabinets!) but you can see the beautiful update. It is SO much more functional! Our cabinet maker was the ONLY person I can imagine doing this job. Cutting the saltillo tiles and building these cabinets with no toe kick, along with the push to open drawers with this setup was NOT easy. But so worth it! The backside of the island has open shelving for cookbooks and large serving pieces, etc.

BEFORE
ALMOST DONE!
the breakfast station was feeling unbalanced, so I added this shelf.

Lastly, I know COVID did a number on all of us. For me, a happy introvert that does not need to leave the house, I think I lost a good amount of how to be around others. Of course it depends on the persons you are with, but I find it harder and harder to make connections. I am weary of any conversation (and human) that is not real. Just give me real and simple and down to earth. I turned 55 this year, for my birthday I threw two small parties and invited people that I would like to know better. I told them my plan to make good friends and just have more fun gosh darn it, and they were all in! It is now very interesting to have to have a list of people I want to hang out with so I don’t forget to be social.

Much love, I hope you’re doing well,

Scarlett
